Radius Telecoms is one of the telecommunications companies in the Philippines that has been supporting PhNOG (Philippine Network Operators Group) since 2016. This year’s conference was held at the Bai Hotel in Cebu from March 4-8, 2019. PhNOG provides an opportunity for experts in the Internet community to get together, share business initiatives and discuss opportunities.
APNIC’s Shane Hermoso headed two workshops at the PhNOG conference from March 4-5. The BGP 101 workshop, which was catered to attendees who wanted to advance their knowledge of IP networks and the DNSSEC workshop, aimed to increase the knowledge of local networking professionals about DNSSEC, focusing on DNSSEC specifications for securing DNS information.
The week-long event focused on knowledge development, technical issues and concerns regarding the Internet and network management, and featured some interesting topics with a mix of local and international keynote speakers that attracted over 100 attendees. One of the keynote speakers was Matt Jansen of Facebook sharing his knowledge and expertise on network disaster recovery. IPv6 migration and updates on the 3rd telco was also discussed during the conference.
In conclusion, PhNOG has been instrumental in providing a platform to facilitate and encourage peering and business relationships among local and International Internet Service Providers in the country.
